Things To Know Before Booking a Boat Rental

Hurricane, Utah, is home to spectacular views. It’s a vibrant blue oasis ready for exploring. Everything is possible when you choose to uncover the beauties of the state’s incredible bodies of water, whether you enjoy swimming, fishing, or relaxing on a boat with your loved ones. There’s no better way to embark on an adventure than to rent a boat or jet ski. However, you must read through this list of things to know before booking a boat rental to ensure you have a fun and safe ride.

“Which Type of Watersport Experience Do I Prefer?”

Adventure awaits you on the water. However, you cannot book a watersport experience until you choose between a boat or a jet ski.

Boats

Boat rentals offer a versatile experience; they can accommodate larger groups—capping at a maximum of eight people. Therefore, they’re ideal for family outings or parties with friends. Boats also allow you to engage in a variety of activities, such as fishing, swimming, and leisurely cruising. Plus, you’ll get the luxury of a shaded ride.

Jet Skis

Jet skis cater to those looking for an adrenaline rush and high-speed action on the water. They’re perfect for exploring the waterways with speed, agility, and freedom that large boats can’t offer. These watersport experiences are particularly suitable for pairs, offering a seat for both the driver and the passenger. This setup enables both individuals to enjoy the thrill of speed and maneuverability on the water together.

“What Is the Age Requirement for Renting and Operating?”

Sand Hollow boat rentals don’t require previous experience! However, you must meet the age requirement to rent and operate the watersport machinery. At Southern Utah Adventure Center, the age requirement differs for boats and jet skis.

Boats

Learning to operate a boat isn’t as challenging as you might think. Nevertheless, you must be at least 25 years of age to rent and operate a boat at SUAC. Driving a boat comes with ample responsibility. Adults are more likely to possess previous driving experience and understand the value of operating a watersport vehicle with care.

Jet Skis

Individuals 18 years old and older can rent and operate jet skis. Young enthusiasts can enjoy the thrill of exploring the water while upholding basic safety skills. It’s a great way for younger adults to gain experience and confidence on the water before operating a large boat.

“Do I Need To Understand Boating Laws Before My Experience?”

Fortunately, you don’t need to be an expert on Utah’s boating laws before exploring the water. After signing the rental agreement, a guide will go over the most important boating laws.

Speed Limits in Designated Areas

Southern Utah enforces specific speed limits in certain areas to protect boaters and wildlife. For example, in zones marked as “No Wake” areas, boaters must adjust their speed to minimize the wake created by their vessel. This law helps to preserve the natural habitat of wildlife and provides a safer environment for all water-based activities.

Life Jacket Requirements

Any child under the age of 12 must always wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket when on a moving boat. This law underscores the importance of safety for the younger boating community, ensuring they are safe in the event of any unforeseen accidents on the water.

Boating Under the Influence (BUI)

The state of Utah prohibits anyone with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.05% or more from operating a motorboat. The combination of poor judgment and impaired instincts puts people’s safety at risk. This law ensures everyone on the water is out of harm’s way.

“How Long Can I Spend on the Water?”

Determining the duration of your boat rental influences the overall cost, the type of boat, and the activities planned. Consider your itinerary, including destinations, activities, and rest periods, to estimate the ideal rental period accurately.

Southern Utah Adventure Center caters to a wide array of preferences and schedules by offering versatile duration options for boat rentals. We have you covered, whether you’re planning a short outing or a prolonged exploration!

Choose between a 5-hour half day, a full day of adventure (from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM), and multi-day experiences. This flexibility allows you to tailor your boating experience to fit your adventure, be it a brief escape to the waters, a full day of fishing and sightseeing, or an extended voyage to thoroughly enjoy the scenic beauty of Southern Utah’s waterways.

“Are There Travel Limitations?”

These things to know before booking a boat rental will help you ensure you comply with the rental contract—including travel limitations. A perk of Southern Utah’s boat rental service is you’re not confined to one location.

You’re free to explore Quail Creek, Sand Hollow, Lake Powell, and Lake Mead. Once you have the boat and all the information you need, you’re free to take the motorboat for optimal exploration.

“Should I Pack Sun Protection?”

The answer is always yes if you ever question if you need to pack sunscreen! No matter the duration of the trip or the forecast, sunscreen is a must-have item. The reflective nature of water surfaces can intensify the effects of the sun’s rays, increasing the risk of sunburn. Include a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF that offers UVA and UVB protection to safeguard your skin. Reapplying sunscreen every two hours, and after swimming or sweating, is crucial for continuous protection.

“What Should I Wear on a Boat or Jet Ski?”

Wearing a swimsuit is a great idea, whether you rent a jet ski or a boat. You never know when you’ll want to go for a swim or encounter big splashes on your adventure. The weather plays a significant role in determining the right clothing for your boat trip.

Lightweight, breathable fabrics, sunglasses, and hats can protect against the sun on sunny days. During cooler weather or evening rides, bring extra layers, long-sleeved attire, and waterproof gear. Footwear is another important consideration. Non-slip water shoes with ample traction will provide stability while walking on the boat, navigating rocks, or swimming in the water.

Let the adventures begin! Book a jet ski or boat experience on SUAC’s website today and make long-lasting memories.
